On Saturday, August 12, 2023, The Sierra Leone Association of Alberta held its 2023 Board Orientation Workshop at the association’s community multipurpose centre (17218 107 Ave. NW, Edmonton, AB). The workshop is a part of an SBCCI funded capacity building grant project. The workshop covered best practice in board governance. A couple of Past Community Presidents shared their experience with current board members. Points covered include what worked well for them during their term of office as presidents, their challenges and how they addressed them, and what they would do differently if they have to serve again. Similarly, continuing board members shared their experience garnered so far with members who are new to the board.
